Valentino is a giant Cuy and not typical for his breed at all because this guy is as tame as they come.
He is the Ambassador for Los Angeles Guinea Pig Rescue
Disabled Guinea Pig / As well as health checks for guinea pigs that were adopted from here, I also encourage anybody who has a guinea pig to make an online appointment to come and get a free nail clip, ear and boar cleaning etc.
This boy came to visit a few days ago. He was possible dropped though his current owner is not sure. She was given him in this state. His body is contorted, there is absolutely no movement in his hind end. In fact his hind is very stiff and hard. My thinking is that this is what happens when a guinea pig gets dropped and no after care is given.
He has a large anal impaction that I cleared up for him but that will keep returning because he has no control down there. Even though he was skinny, he did have a good appetite. However - it is hard to imagine that he is pain free.
Sending this little one lots of love and light.
This is what a fungal infestation looks like. This is a young Teddy. He will look better in 6 weeks from now. Started treatment today. Oct 18.
I have a rare treat for you all. Two young Skinnie Pig boys. In all my 15yrs I have never seen these in rescue till now. These two were born April 2014. Would prefer they went to a previous adopter but that is not a must. Please put in your application now. http://www.laguineapigrescue.com/adoption.html
Simon (the white faced) is friendly and will come up to you, but little skittish when picked up. He settles down when he is on your lap. He likes all foods. He especially likes his treat a piece of carrot at bedtime 9:30-10:00PM. Garfunkel (red Faced) will come up to you first and is friendly. Settles really quick on your lap. They both are at the front of the cage at night waiting for their bedtime treat. Do not forgot or you will hear about it. Garfunkel likes all types of food. he sometimes will steal Simons carrot piece and run around with it. They race around their cage like NASCAR drivers chasing each other. They are brothers and never fight. During summer I put their chew log in the freezer and they like to lay in it to cool off. They like to chatter at the guinea pig next to them and when they hear the cellophane bag open for their greens.
BEAD ALERT! Remarkable things seem to have happened in pairs of two this weekend at Los Angeles Guinea Pig Rescue. As well as two chirping guinea pigs we also had two pigs come in with serious dental issues. A red one and green one. Plastic child play beads that is. If you have a child who has these beads please check your guinea pig. Routine health checks one a surrendered pig and a guinea pig that came by this weekend to find a friend revealed plastic beads stuck on the bottom incisor. The red bead pig seemed not to be affected by it too much, the green one however was miserable and also developed an overgrown front incisor as a result. Both have now been relieved of their beads, the green bead pigs teeth trimmed and both are doing a lot better. Watch those beads people!
